Sun bear’s left leg injured after being entangled

LAMANRIAU.COM, PEKANBARU – Riau Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA) evacuated a Sun Bear caught in a snare in the Bukit Bungkuk Nature Reserve, Kampar district.

The sun bear’s entangled condition was obtained by the Riau BBKSDA from the community. The conservation agency then dispatched a team to the location of the entangled bear.

“We do anesthesia and release the noose that binds the bear’s left hand. Followed by a health check by the medical team,” said Head of the Riau KSDA Center, Suharyono, Saturday, June 5, 2021.

After the team was deployed and arrived at the location, the team found a bear tied in a noose in his left hand.

Suharyono explained, the sun bear’s condition is now in good health, there are no serious injuries from the entanglement marks.

“From the results of the examination, it is known that the male bear is in his teens, his condition is not serious,” he said.

After the bear’s condition improved and was in good health, he was then released into the surrounding area.

Furthermore, the Riau BKSDA Hall appealed to the local community not to set up wildlife traps in the area.

For those who snares, he explained, can be subject to Law No. 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystems with a threat of five years in prison and a fine of Rp. 100 million. (kpr)
